Cycling Sunglasses – Tips

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Cycling sunglasses are not only used to protect a rider against sunlight and glare. They are also useful for impact protection against  insects, debris, wind and rain.

Hence lens material needs to be impact resistant to debris.

Good lenses are made of  polycarbonate material which is a soft resin that can absorb high impacts.

So what do all the different lenses mean?
Different lenses offer various advantages in differing conditions.
Clear lens – Are used for dark and foggy times when hazard protection is needed, but light is premium.
Yellow lens – Are for overcast days where more contrast and definition is needed.
Orange lens – Are most useful for darker, cloudy weather. Orange lenses add definition and relax the eye.
Smoke grey lens – Are best for bright and sunny conditions. They add definition and relax the eye.
Blue mirror lens – Are most beneficial in sunny conditions. Mirror lenses reduce glare.

Full or Half rims?
Most frames either have full or half rims. Both have their advantages and their disadvantages. Full frame rims offer more safety protection to the face. However, some people find the full rim to be irritating and the lense is more likely to fog up when you are stationary. Half frames typically allow for more vision given there is less hindrances of the rim. However, in an accident there is an increased risk of cutting your face. These style lense tend not to fog as much and the air dissipates more quickly when on the move.

But always remember it is very hard to ride without sight, so protect your eyes.

We are looking at installing product reviews into our website Velogear.

In the first instance we are particularly interested in reviews on our bike shorts and bibs and cycling gloves & mitts but we are happy for you to send any comments and they will be eventually published.

I will post more information soon but look foward to any responses.

SEO continues

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

As I was saying , yesterday I finished by bike shorts SEO, or least I hope I did for quite a while!…and today I continued on by finishing our cycling gloves and mitts section. Again I linked back to the main cycling clothing category – though I note we are ranking 1page 1 for this keyword….though it does not bring in a lot of natural traffic, while my ppc for the word does-  perhaps someone would like to comment on why this could happen?

To get a bit more of a handle on blogging I have checked out a few sites and have suscribed to Daily Blog Tips. It appeared to be the most interesting and had a nice format…I suppose I shall just have to start and see where this leads to as well.

Just Trying to Learn Blogging

Monday, January 11th, 2010

To hot to do much today so I though I might play around with my new blog and see how it works and stuff.

This week I have been trying to do a bit of SEO on my bike shorts and bike bibs pages. There is a lot of good help available for small DIY SEO out there.

Two of my favourite SEO blogs are Hobo and SEO Design Solutions.

Using guidelines mainly from these 2 blogs I have checked my keywords, spruced up my content to include the same and have provided a siloing effect by linking each product , eg bike short 1, bike short 2 , etc to the first sub category , which is bike shorts & bibs.

I have not checked the Google ranking of the individual products – should of really – but have checked my ranking for my main keywords – and they were not to good. Out of 6 keywords I am ranking 22, 43,60 , >100,>100, and >100..and thats only in google.com.au (australia). So I have heaps of work to do and am busting to see how these first few rankings go.

One thing I am a bit confused about- in a Shopping Cart – as I use in my online store- each product links to a subcategory ie bike shorts 1 1, bike shorts 2, etc all link to a subcategory = bike shorts and bibs – and this links upwards again to the next bigger category etc., thus passing on link juice from each product upto the main categories?  So should,t this be enough linking??

I suppose there will hopefully be some gain due to the use of keyword modifiers as I was linking through the use of anchor text.

Anyway if any reader can suggest other good self SEO sites, especially for small online CMS type stores -let me know.
